FullDome Interactive Performance
Split Mind

Location: Jena, Germany
Year: 2026
Skill: TouchDesigner, Kinect, Real-Time Graphics, FullDome Projection, Interactive Performance, Reaper, Audio Reactive Systems
About the project:

Split Minds is an interactive FullDome performance developed as a second-semester project for the FullDome Festival Jena. The project explores a fictional narrative of a collapsing consciousness, where internal mental states transform into shifting visual environments.

Designed for a 360° dome projection system, the performance combines choreography, music, and real-time visuals into a single immersive experience. A live performer drives the visual system through movement, allowing the projection to evolve in response to body gestures, creating a continuous dialogue between physical performance and digital environment.

The project is currently in development and will be presented at the FullDome Festival in Jena, where the final performance will take place inside the dome space.

My Role:

The project focused on the development of a real-time interactive visual system built in TouchDesigner. The system was designed to support a live performance structure and respond directly to the performer’s movement and the pre-composed soundtrack.

The performance was structured into four interconnected visual scenes, each representing a different emotional and narrative state. Scene transitions, visual behaviors, and interaction logic were designed to operate seamlessly in real time during the performance.

A Kinect-based tracking system was integrated to capture the performer’s body movements and translate them into visual parameters. Movement data influenced particle systems, geometric transformations, and scene dynamics, creating a responsive relationship between choreography and projection.

Audio-reactive elements were also incorporated to enhance synchronization between sound and visuals, ensuring that the performance functioned as a unified audiovisual system.

The visual system is specifically designed for a FullDome projection environment, requiring compositions that are built for 360° spatial immersion rather than a flat frame. This directly influences how motion, scale, and transitions behave across the performance space.

The result is a live audiovisual system where body, sound, and real-time graphics merge into a single evolving environment, continuously shaped during performance.

The project is currently being finalized and will be performed live at the Fulldome Festival Jena 2026, where it has been selected as part of the official international program, chosen from a worldwide pool of submissions and presented alongside works from global artists and creative technologists.
