About the project:
Part of Algorave India Compilation One, a collaborative album combining algorithmic music with generative visual zines, Past/Lives transforms a Sonic Pi composition by nanditi into a dynamic visual experience. The zine is part of a larger project celebrating live coding, algorithmic sound, and generative design across India and the diaspora, showcasing how code can be a medium for both music and visual storytelling.
Past/Lives itself visualizes the track’s sonic journey, inspired by personal and imagined pasts, including the courtyard of a childhood music school in Jaipur. The zine translates these layered soundscapes into interactive, code-driven visuals, creating a reflective and immersive experience that connects sound, memory, and cultural heritage.

My Role:
Designed and developed the generative system for the zine, translating the track’s rhythms, textures, and atmosphere into dynamic visuals. Collaborated closely with nanditi to capture the emotional depth and narrative of the music. Integrated cultural motifs and color palettes to reflect shared heritage. Focused on creating a system-driven artwork rather than static illustrations. Shaped the final poster to hold space for layered memory and sound, inviting viewer interpretation.
